FORUT’s District Co-ordinator working on ADD

I.Loganathan supported by Sasipan (volunteer) facilitated a focus group discussion targeting members from different age groups with an intention of collecting information on the community perspectives on alcohol, drugs and tobacco. The participants who comprised of men and women, was encouraged to increase their focus on issues revolving around ADD in their own village and were made aware on promoting factors such as unfair privileges and false attractiveness. Discussions with the community revealed that concerns were more directed towards controlling producers rather than reducing consumption. After providing an orientation of the hidden myths and glamour involved in alcohol, drugs and tobacco there was more positivity displayed to work towards preventing usage.

Such discussions held with the community in the working villages have been immensely beneficial to FORUT in getting to understand the actual ground situation and comprehend the pulse of the community. FORUT implements its programme on Alcohol, Drugs and Tobacco in 16 districts of the country collaborating closely with authorities at village level, health authorities and the Police.
